Our class selection has grown to include the following types of classes. Scroll down to see each type. Classes are reapeatable as many students want to hone their skills before moving on to the next level.

Students learn a new kid friendly technique that are age appropriate each week with plenty of time for each child to complete the projects with as much help as needed. Techniques include pinch pots, slab ware, coil pots, and seasonal decorations. Repeat student are welcome as new themes are presented each season. Hand building

Students and 1 guardian learn a new kid friendly hand building technique that is age appropriate each week with plenty of time for child and guardian to complete the projects with as much help as needed. Returning student are welcome as new themes are presented each season. (Option for guardian to make the same project as the child for the price of an extra student.) Just right for early release school days. Students learn pinch pots, coil construction, slab construction, slump molding, stamped child friendly hand building techniques that are age appropriate each week. Each parent is welcome to observe or make their own projects for the price of one extra student. (Parents of children under 6 are asked to stay for the class and assist when needed.) Adult 8 Week Beginning Wheel
Adult Beginning Wheel Throwing
Age 12 and up
¥28,000 for 20 hours of instruction.
8 weeks of 2.5 hours each week
Morning, afternoon and evening times available Sunday through Friday.
Students learn the most important foundational forms of ceramics including projects like tumblers, mugs, vases, bowls, handles, and beginner decorative techniques. Clay, glazes, and firing are all included. (Enough materials to complete 5 projects, with the option to buy more at a small additional fee.) Adult 8 Week Intermediate Wheel
Adult Intermediate Wheel Throwing Age 12 and up
¥30,000 for 22 hours of instruction.
8 weeks of about 2.5 hours each week
Morning, afternoon and evening times available Sunday through Friday.
Students build on their foundation of beginner forms to include plates, pedestal forms, pitchers with spouts, lidded containers, and intermediate decorative techniques. Adult 8 Week Advanced Wheel

Adult Three Week Wheel Classes
Adult Beginning Wheel Throwing
Age 12 and up
¥14,000 for about 9 hours of instruction.
3 weeks of around 3 hours each week
Morning, afternoon and evening times available Sunday through Friday.
Students learn a single type of project like tumblers, mugs, or bowls, and beginner decorative techniques. Each student will finish two projects completely including wheel throwing the first day, trimming the second day and glazing on the final day. Classes can be scheduled once weekly. Beginning to Advanced
8 weeks of 2.5 hours each week

Students learn the main construction techniques of hand building; pich pots, coil pots and slab pots. Decorative techniques such as stamping, texturing, and low relief will be covered. Returning students can learn intermediate and advanced techniques as well as seasonal projects. One Time Seasonal Experiences
Seasonal Experience
Age 3 and up (3-5 must have an accompanying adult each)
¥5000 per project for about 3 hours of instruction
This is a hand building experience. Single or small groups up to 9 people are available. Seasonal themed hand building projects suitable for any age or ability will be taught in a way that students of all ages and abilities can understand. Young children under 6 must be accompanied by one adult each. Clay, glazes, and firing are all included. For further details or to sign up please send us a message. Student work will be dried and fired and clear glazed and fired again. Pieces will be ready for pick up in 3-4 weeks.
Japanese Language Exchange and Ceramics
Wednesdays 7:30-10
Returning wheel students or beginner hand building students
Age 12 and up
¥3,500 2.5 hours *partially instructed
Practice some Japanese while we make ceramics. Wheel is available for those who wish to practice what they already have learned. Register each time before you attend, please. This will ensure there are enough spaces available. Wheel students should plan to come again to trim and glaze in subsequent weeks. Unfinished wheel pottery will be removed after 2 months of non-attendance. Student hand built work will be dried and fired and clear glazed and fired again. Open Studio Wednesdays

Please check the Kadena Connect Application, Kadena Portal online or sign up in person at the Arts and Crafts Store at Schilling Community Center. Anyone with kadena base access is allowed to enroll.
Signing up is easy. Just follow these simple steps.
1. Pick your class from the list above.
2. Message us on Facebook, Instagram, or send an email to let us know you're interested.
3. We'll ask for some times and dates you are available. Just let us know what works for you.
4. We'll tell you what openings are currently available at your preferred times. Then just choose a time from the options we provide and let us know when you'd like to start.
5. We'll send directions, parking details, and confirm your date and time. Then just bring your payment in yen to the class. (for 8 week and 3 week classes the whole fee is due on the first day.)
Any class is repeatable at Little Okinawa Ceramics School, and students will receive new and fun project ideas with changing seasons and current decorating trends. Children and adults both enjoy repeating classes session after session for the relaxing and enjoyable aspect of Ceramics. Repeat students are welcome to request specific projects.
